Sin is the sickness, disease, and torment of the soul; Christ came to take away sin, and so to heal these.

First of all let’s look at what our Soul is! SOUL — a word with two distinct meanings in the Bible: 1 Thessalonians 5v23-24.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.   The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it. 1. That which makes a human or animal body alive. This usage of the word “soul” refers to life in the physical body. The best example of this usage are those passages in the New Testament in which the Greek word for soul is translated as “life.”  “For whoever desires to save his life [soul] will lose it,” Jesus declared,  “but whoever loses his life [soul] for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mar 8:36-37). This idea is also present in the Old Testament. For example, the soul of a dying person departed at death (Gen 35:18). The prophet Elijah brought a child back to life by stretching himself upon the c...

He Holds Our Hand!

He Holds Our Hand Arthur Jackson I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 Isaiah 41:8–13 Numbers 4–6; Mark 4:1–20 The little girl who navigated the stairway one Sunday at church was cute, spunky, and independent. One by one the child—who appeared to be not much older than two years—took the steps down to the lower level. Descending the stairs was her mission and she accomplished it. I smiled to myself as I pondered the daring independence of this courageous toddler. The child wasn’t afraid because she knew her caring mother’s watchful eye was always on her and her loving hand was extended to help her. This aptly pictures the Lord’s readiness to help His children as they make their way through life with its varied uncertainties. Today’s Scripture includes two “hand” references. After cautioning His ancient people not to fear or be dismayed, the Lord told them, “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Many an...

CHRIST AND HIS CROSS THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE

1Pe 1:9  The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. 1Pe 1:10  This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you. 1Pe 1:11  They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward. 1Pe 1:12  They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen. 1 Peter 1:10-12 I have detached these three clauses from their surroundings, not because I desire to treat them fragmentarily, but because we thereby throw into stronger relief the writer’s purpose to bring out the identity of the Old and the New Revelation, the...

HOLD FAST TO THE PROMISES!

‘The testing of our faith proves that it is genuine’, says Peter (1 Peter 1v7). 1Pe 1:7  These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. NLT None of us likes to be tested, nor do we like to be kept waiting when we want something.   Jesus teaches us to persevere in prayer, to be determined to receive the answer needed.   It is easy to grow impatient, or to begin Soul- searching to see if there is any fault that is preventing us from receiving the answer;  or to begin concentrating on the problem instead of the truth. Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.   Perseverance must finis...
